I did some Urban Cooking in the After Effects Kitchen at Medialab Utrecht this weekend. With a group motion designers out of Utrecht we created about 30 short animations all with the theme ‘uprising’. All these animation were then thrown up a pile and then edited together to form one movie file. This animation was then projected on a four stories building using one beamer per floor. The movie will be projected 1,5 month every night on a building at Neude Utrecht. If your near Utrecht be sure to check it out!

After being post on Motionographer and being between the best three on the Dutch Online Film Festival the Windmill is featured yet again on FWA Theater. Cool!

70% korting op motiongraphics

Krijg nu tijdelijk tot wel 70% korting als je mij inhuurt voor het maken van een animatie. Door middel van een europese subsidie regeling is het voor MKB-ers mogelijk om zogenaamde puddingvouchers te kopen bij de puddingfabriek. De vouchers kunnen ingeleverd worden bij creatieve ondernemers die lid zijn van de puddingfabriek.

Een voorwaarde bij een aanbesteding is dat het product voor de MKB-er innovatief is voor zijn/haar bedrijfsvoering. Als voorbeeld; een MKB-er wil een promotievideo op zijn website waar een product of dienst wordt uitgelegd. Hij heeft dit in het verleden nog nooit eerder gedaan en is derhalve innovatief voor het bedrijf.

The PuddingFactory

As of this year I’ve located my studio in Groningen, a city up north in the Netherlands. I’m in a building what used to be a factory where they made pudding; Polak’s Puddingfactory (1930’s).

In 2001 a relatively big group of media and arts companies organised themselves into the Media Initiative Groningen (MIG): 400 – 500 people and started the lobby for an idea for a cluster building. Creative industries were not recognized at that time. The city was impressed by the lobby and looking for opportunities. They came up with the old pudding factory whichup till 2001 was an archive for the city. In 2003 the PuddingFactory opens its doors and a Union is formed to guard the concept of the house (creative industries). 

The PuddingFactory Facts:

• founded in 2001, rebuild in 2002, 2005
• 2500 sqm mixed company building
• regulated 70% New Media and ICT: broad description
• today: Creative Industries
• housing >40 companies and >80 people

Located at the central station of Groningen and nearby the Groninger Museum, the Puddingfactory is the creative heart of the city. The Puddingfactory differentiates from a ‘normal’ company-collective through collaboration , creativity, innovation and combining art, knowledge and commerce. This makes the Puddingfactory a unique place where innovation and spirit is foremost.

American Dollar on Motionographer

During my graduation at Onesize I worked on the videoclip for American Dollar. As of today the clip got promoted on Motionographer. I worked together with onesize on the concept and boards and made the decaying cottage you see in the clip.

A few days after registering my company at the chamber of commerce, I got a call from a journalist who found it interesting to interview me for the chamber of commerce paper. This was ofcourse a nice opportunity for me to get noticed as a starter. It even left me with a new customer; N8W8 for which I created the MyDNA promovideo.

Heerko Groefsema nominated for Online Dutch Film Festival

The Dutch Online Film Festival is a ‘virtual’  festival which hosts short movies in the categories drama, documentary, experimental and animation up to 30 minutes.

Out of hundreds of submissions the jury selected 58 short movies of which The Windmill was one. Today Giso Spijkerman and I were invited to come to the award show because we were on of the last three nominated. Unfortunately we didn’t win but we were very honored to be in the last three.

Maybe next year we’ve got some time to send in an even better movie and win gloriously.

“Een stoere jongen spreidt zijn breakdancematje uit in een Hollands landschap, vlak bij een windmolen. Hij zal wel eens laten zien wat de windmill, een van de meest virtuoze breakdancebewegingen, nou precies is. Dan daagt hij de molen uit. Waarop het bouwwerk uiterst cool reageert, met zwierende wieken en moeiteloos duizeldraaiend om zijn eigen as – alles perfect op de maat van de pompende beats.

Het even ingenieuze als originele The Windmill (Heerko Groefsema en Giso Spijkerman) is een van de bijna zestig filmpjes die vertoond worden in het kader van het Nederlands Online Film Festival (NOFF) – de interneteditie van het Nederlands Film Festival (NFF), dat momenteel in Utrecht plaatsvindt. The Windmill dingt mee naar de NOFF-juryprijs. Alle door het NOFF geselecteerde filmpjes maken kans op de publieksprijs, waarvoor nog gestemd kan worden”.

The windmill is 1 van de 3 genomineerden voor het Nederlands Online Film Festival Jury-prijs. Dat werd 25 september 2008 bekend gemaakt tijdens de talkshow gepresenteerd door Matthijs van Nieuwkerk.
